Product description

USER Service

USER is a service to support local public administrations for monitoring land consumption financed under the PNRR. The project started on March 8, 2023 and will end in June 2026.

USER provides periodic map updates, allowing continuous monitoring of areas sealed by human activity, indicating changes over time.

USER generates maps with a resolution of 5 meters using Planet satellite data similar in characteristics to the future IRIDE optical sensors. As soon as IRIDE is active there will be a progressive integration of the data with the high-resolution satellites of the new Italian constellation.

USER pursues these objectives through the acquisition of Planet SuperDove data in May and September for all the areas of interest of the project. Based on these data, the maps of: Imperviousness (M1), Build Up(M2), Build Up Change (M3), Land Use Change (M4).

M1

Imperviousness Map

(IM-M1): This product provides information on the spatial distribution of impervious surfaces distinguishing them from vegetated areas and other natural material surfaces

M2

Build Up Map

(BU-M2): Indicates exclusively built-up and waterproofed areas.

M3

Build Up Change Map

(BUC-M3): Represents the difference between built up maps acquired in different time intervals.

M4

Land Use Change Map

(LCC-M4): In this map the changes detected in the Build Up Change Map are classified according to change classes based on the EAGLE level 2 standard.

Service features

Coverage on Italian provinces

In 2023, 3600 km² of territory were covered. Starting from June 2024, another 3900 km² have been added, bringing the total monitored area to 7500 km²

Time update

To ensure monitoring of the territory, 2 satellite acquisitions are carried out every year, preferably in the months of May and September. Processing based on this data allows us to verify the changes that have occurred over time. Updates are published at the end of each calendar year and will continue through 2026

Data download with time update

The service allows you to download products in raster and vector format, depending on the products, so you can process them in your systems

WMS OGC Standard

The service implements OGC WMS standards for online map consultation

Dedicated Web GIS

The USER service provides a WebGIS for consulting maps and carrying out comparison and analysis operations
